2017 Support Group Leaders
This support group is peer-led, meaning that the group leaders are everyday people who have personally experienced infertility. Although they are not professional counselors, our support group leaders are given training and support from the professional staff at UIRC.
Elka grew up just north of Cedar City in the City of Enoch. Elka has struggled with PCOS and infertility through more than twelve years of marriage. At one point because of health issues her doctor said she needed to act fast and get pregnant or get a hysterectomy. Luckily she moved back to Utah and thanks to a good insurance plan and brilliant doctors at UFC she was able to conceive her first child. It took more than 8 rounds of ivf, and her doctor throwing every possible 'experimental' and sometimes not thoroughly tested methods, and after 5 miscarriages (all at around 5 weeks in term), she had one stick. After the last one, she almost decided to give up completely and just accept fate. As of this writing she is currently at 16 weeks, and is due in July of 2017. She loves hiking, fishing, camping, and her 8 chickens, cat, and two dogs.
Whitney has struggled with infertility and recurrent miscarriage since 2007. In 2011, she started a journey to health where she lost 100 lbs which alleviated almost all her PCOS symptoms. She has gone through 6 miscarriages, many failed medicated cycles, and 1 failed IVF cycle before moving to her current donor egg IVF cycle. She is excited to become a support group leader to give back to an amazing community who has helped her feel less alone over the years.
UIRC thanks Utah Fertility Center for their generous sponsorship of the Utah County Infertility Support Group.
